North East Project (NEP) is a groundbreaking socially-focused design collective movement comprising some of the most forward-thinking fashion and product design companies in India. NEP mines the astonishing creative potential that accompanies India’s demographic dividend to address social causes of enormous magnitude. The Collective generates greater awareness for the fight against human trafficking by creating and selling exclusive bespoke products that are made from designed materials produced by members of communities considered to be at high risk of being trafficked. Revenues from the sale of products are split with the larger chunk going back to the community and the smaller chunk being distributed amongst the Collective, thus maintaining a profitable and sustainable ecosystem.
NEP was founded by Impulse Social Enterprises, an award-winning social enterprise headed by Hasina Kharbhih working in the Northeast region of India to eliminate the incidence of human trafficking, and the Brewhouse, a leading creative agency based in Delhi and headed by Abhineet Singh and Emilia Bergmans,

Cut from the same cloth- the first collection
This collection shows the versatility of material. All designers have created products using tribal patterns from the North-East region. The results are diverse and harmonious all at once. Products include travel accessories, furniture, clothing, and shoes.
Looking to the future: Following the encouraging response to the first NEP collection, our Collective will very actively continue to develop collaborations with leading design houses and explore the tremendous synergies between organic material, human creativity, value chain innovation, and scaleable solutions for social problems. The outcome will result in a meaningful and sustainable deterrent to the human trafficking problem, and simultaneously provide leading design houses with an inspiring canvas to project their talents and develop extraordinary creations.
